Who is eligible to vote?

Eligible voters are all Faculty, Instructors, Teaching Fellows, Adjunct Instructors, Adjunct Assistant Professors, Adjunct Associate Professors, Adjunct Professors, Assistant Instructors, Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, Professors, Therapists, Assistants, Coordinators, Associates, Technical Assistants, Sound Technicians, Equipment Staff, Advisors, Directors, Senior Directors, File Clerks, Bursars, Staff, Social Media “Managers,” Community Outreach “Managers,” Veterans Affairs “Managers,” Equipment “Supervisors,” Financial Aid “Supervisors,” and IT “Supervisors,” employed by NYFA at its Los Angeles, CA campus who were employed during the current academic semester, beginning September 1, 2024.

How can I vote?

Ballots will be mailed to your home address on Thursday, Nov. 14 from the office of the National Labor Relations Board. Voters must return their mail ballots so that they will be received in the National Labor Relations Board, Region 31 office by close of business on December 5, 2024. NYFA will provide the NLRB with your home address that they have on file. If you have moved in the last several years, make sure your address is updated on Paycom!

Voters must sign the outside of the envelope in which the ballot is returned. Any ballot received in an envelope that is not signed will be void.

Is the election decided by a simple majority of those voting?

Yes. We encourage every eligible voter to make your voice heard. A strong “yes” vote in advance of bargaining creates more momentum and a mandate for negotiating a strong contract.

What are the questions on the ballot?

For faculty and therapists, there are two questions on the ballot:

Do you wish to be included with the nonprofessional employees in a unit for the purposes of collective bargaining? The choices on the ballot will be “Yes” or “No”.

Do you wish to be represented for purposes of collective bargaining by Association of Teachers and Staff Los Angeles – UAW? The choices on the ballot will be “Yes” or “No”.

The NLRB is required to ask both questions when “professional” employees, i.e. workers engaged in intellectual work, choose to form a union with “nonprofessional” employees.

Voting YES to both questions ensures that faculty and staff are in one union together!

For staff, the one question on the ballot is “Do you wish to be represented for purposes of collective bargaining by Association of Teachers and Staff Los Angeles – UAW?”

As Faculty and Staff, we make up our union, Association of Teachers and Staff Los Angeles – UAW, and the more of us who vote yes, the more power we will have to negotiate a strong first contract with the NYFA administration.

What do I do if I do not receive my ballot?

Faculty and staff who do not receive a ballot or require a duplicate can request one from the NLRB office until Thursday, Nov. 21. Contact the NLRB office at 1-844-762-NLRB (1-844-762-6572) and send us an email at info@atsla.org as soon as possible if you need to request a ballot.

How can I check my mailing address?

When will we know the results?

The ballot count will happen at the NLRB office on Friday, Dec 6 beginning at 10 am. We will announce the result shortly after the count concludes.

What happens after the vote?

Once we win our union election, NYFA will have a legal obligation to bargain with us over the terms and conditions of our work at the school.
